The Taste of WVON is a fun-filled day of food, live entertainment, shopping and community building designed for the entire family. This day-long celebration takes place in one of Chicago’s premier neighborhoods, the Chatham-Avalon community. Last years event was a record 44,000 in attendance.
SATURDAY JULY 20TH marks the Ninth Annual Taste of WVON and we are getting bigger and better every year! This one day family festival brought to you by WVON and dozens of generous sponsors, The Taste of WVON features a Children's Pavilion with a petting zoo, face painting, and pony rides, food and merchant booths and a live sound stage. Past musical talent include Doug E. Fresh, The Stylistics, Morris Day and the Time, Sheila E., Rose Royce, The Dramatics, El DeBarge, Kindred The Family Soul, and The Lowrider Band, formerly War.
WVON is Chicago’s only African-American talk radio station. Our core listener is 30 and over, and professional. They are loyal, conscientious consumers who are fully vested and engaged in the social and cultural experience of the African-American community. Our listeners are passionate supporters of WVON and actively supporting those advertising partners who support their favorite radio station.
GETTING TO THE TASTE OF WVON
Chicago State University is located on 95th and Martin Luther King Drive. The festival opens at 10am and ends at Dusk. There will be parking available on campus for a charge of $10. While there is street parking available, consider accessing the Taste of WVON festival at Chicago State University by public transportation conveniently located in between the 95th Dan Ryan Redline train stop and the 95th Chicago State University Metra stop at 95th and Cottage Grove.
Bring your lawn chair to enjoy the live soundstage featuring some of the hottest acts from across the country! Have plenty of cash to enjoy fare from local restaurants. The Taste of WVON also features many merchant vendors with clothing, books, body products, jewelry, and art. Please patronize these amazing artisans who spend countless hours preparing for our annual festival.
Alcoholic beverages are not allowed in park outside of designated drinking areas. Midway Broadcasting Corporation, WVON, and are participating sponsors are not responsible for misconduct related to the consumption of alcohol. Anyone who violates these rules will be immediately removed from the park by authorities. PLEASE DRINK RESPONSIBLY.

WVON is very conscious of the neighborhood we serve. We ask that all guests and visitors of the Taste of WVON respect the permanent residents who call Lorraine Dixon Park Home. Please place all trash in receptacles and do not use the trees or other shrubbery as a bathroom.
